Open Day:  Saturday 5th March, 12:00pm

dBs: The Institute of Sound & Digital Technologies (dBs) and Access Creative College (ACC) will open the doors to their state-of-the-art Plymouth campus next month to showcase opportunities for students to train for careers in the creative industries.

The two organisations have come together to offer students in Devon and Cornwall a range of specialist courses, taught by industry figures in creative subjects, offering a learning experience unlike any other in the region.

The open day, on 5th March at the campus on Higher Lane, will highlight courses in music performance and production, and, for the first time, games development with subjects ranging from post 16 to degree level and beyond.

Students at dBs and ACC can develop their skills using industry-grade equipment with top notch facilities. With the addition of Access Creative College, students will also have access to its national network and community of creative people, spaces and equipment at campuses around the country.

Matthew Mills, centre manager, comments, “Our open days give students the chance to get hands on with music performance and production, and, for the first time, gain an insight into our brand-new games development courses.  They can meet tutors and students and get a flavour for the standard of facilities on offer.”

At the Centre, students are taught by tutors who have worked in the industry, providing an opportunity to learn first-hand what it takes to succeed in the creative industries and gain insight above and beyond the curriculum. This supports future career prospects.

Matthew Mills continues, “With year 11 students in the throes of making their decisions about post-16 education, we want to highlight the opportunities available to them. We also want them to get a sense of the vibrant and inclusive environment that we offer here for students seeking a career in the creative sector.  It is a space to hone skills, nurture talent and allow ideas to flourish. Students are supported academically and emotionally through their learning journey through a number of support services.”

With a common goal to deliver the next generation of creative talent, Access Creative College and dBs: The Institute of Sound & Digital Technologies have come together to offer students an extended range of subjects from levels 2-8. Offering a connected learning journey, students in and around Plymouth can access and signup at whichever point they choose for further- or higher-education level courses. dBs: The Institute of Sound & Digital Technologies and Access Creative College are co-located in the city and work in partnership.

In the Autumn of 2021, The Armstrong Learning Group, owners of Access Creative College, a leading independent college for the creative industries acquired dBs: The Institute of Sound & Digital Technologies. In Plymouth, the two operate side by side in a single location.
