Young set to sparkle at education and film ceremony
Young learners from across Plymouth will be treading the red carpet at Plymouth’s Children’s University graduation and Young Motion Plymouth 2014.
Over 100 young people between the ages of five and 14 will be graduating with the Children’s University (CU) - a national organisation that recognises the efforts of young people who learn outside the classroom. It is run locally by Plymouth City Council and with over 6,000 members, is one of the most successful CU’s in the country.
Each graduate will be awarded with either bronze, silver or gold levels for completing many hours of learning at validated destinations within and beyond the city. These activities can vary dramatically and range from learning at the National Marine Aquarium, to history trails at Ford Park Cemetery or getting creative at the Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery.
Alongside the CU graduates will be budding young filmmakers, who have been making movies for the annual Young Motion Plymouth competition, now in its seventh year. The winners will be presented with awards from Lord Mayor, Councillor Mike Fox.
Young Motion Plymouth, a Children’s University learning destination, is a citywide, short film competition for young filmmakers led by the Council and sponsored by the Theatre Royal and Clockwork.
Winners will receive a highly coveted ‘Frankie’ award and the chance to see their entries on the big screen.
Councillor Sue McDonald, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Public Health said: “Events like this are crucially important. We have a wealth of talented young people here in Plymouth, so I’m always pleased to be able to celebrate their achievements with them.
“It’s really encouraging to see how many of our young people value their education and are going the extra mile to further their learning to give them the best possible start for the future.”
The winning films will be shown on Young Motion Plymouth’s website www.youngmotionplymouth.com alongside winners from previous years.
