As part of the Fashion in the City event – between September 9 and 17 – students from City College Plymouth and staff from Stars Salon – will be offering a range of completely free beauty treatments.

From mini manicures to dry hair styling, make-up tips to beauty consultations, they will be on hand to make sure everyone who arrives turns heads when they leave.

The Beauty Spots will be open in selected locations throughout the FITC week starting in the Flannels designer fashion store on September 14.

The students and beauticians will be at Royal William Yard on September 15 and Plymouth Market on the September 16, all waiting to give the people of Plymouth a free pampering session.

This is the second Fashion in the City event following on from last year’s success, which saw a staggering 25,000 people watching the end of week catwalk shows.

This year organisers are promising even more cutting-edge styles, bang-on trends and fashionable lust-haves.

From tailored suits to little black dresses, designer labels to sparkly accessories, trench coats to the latest fabrics, Britain’s Ocean City will be setting the global trends this Autumn.

The event, being held at venues across the city, kicks off with a glamorous launch night, sponsored by Gaia Spa and hosted by Flannels, and ends with a weekend of exciting runway shows in Drake Circus on September 16 and 17.

The catwalk will feature this year’s new Autumn and Winter collections from top High Street retailers, designer outlets and local fashion houses.

The shows will also feature the work of talented students from the Plymouth College of Art, who will be showcasing their latest collections.

The aim of the week - organised jointly by the Plymouth City Centre Company and the event’s main sponsor Drake Circus - is to promote Plymouth’s growing reputation as a brilliant shopping venue, as well as a great holiday destination.

Other attractions include bright and colourful shop window displays throughout the city centre, a fashion photography exhibition showcasing some of Plymouth’s cutting edge fashion talent and special fashion brunches in local cafes, bars and restaurants.

City College Plymouth Enterprise Manager, Mike Jones, said: “The Beauty Spots are a great place for shoppers to get a chance to relax and unwind with mini pampering sessions, from manicures and facials to an Indian head massage.

“They are also a great way for our students to gain valuable, hands-on experience. Last year they really enjoyed getting out there and meeting people. It gave them a really valuable insight into the world of beauty therapy and the work they could be doing in the future.”

So, with free pampering, cutting edge fashion and the chance to buy some truly ground-breaking designs forget Rome or New York – Plymouth is the place to be seen this September.
