Salcombe cyclist raises over £67,000 for St Luke's
A Salcombe cycle enthusiast has raised over £67,000 for local charity, St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth.
In 2007 Salcombe business man Kevin Favis partner in The Salcombe Crab and Lobster Company organised his first cycle challenge in memory of his wife Tina. Seven consecutive years of challenges later, Kevin and his friends known as ‘The Lads from Salcombe’ have now notched up thousands of miles and raised a total of £67,035 for St Luke’s.
Raising £9,338 last year alone on his Ilfracombe to Salcombe cycle, Kevin explains why he has used pedal power to support St Luke’s: “We love to support St Luke's each year with our 'Ride For Tina' Due to the wonderful work St Luke's and their staff have done for friends and family over the years. We wish it to continue for others to gain the benefits as we have done.
'The Lads From Salcombe' would like to thank all those who have supported them over the years especially The Salcombe Embroiderers for the team shirts and both Cranch's and The Plaice for supplying our food”.
St Luke’s Community Fundraiser, Wayne Marshall said: “Kevin's support for our charity is a moving example of commitment and determination we are all very proud of the team's achievement. An amazing amount has been raised and more and more people have come to understand the great work done by the St Luke's staff. The money that The Lads From Salcombe have raised will help us continue to provide free end of life care to our local community whether that be in hospital; at our hospice or through the St Luke’s Community Nurses who provide care for patients in their homes in Salcombe and throughout the South Hams”.
Kevin has already been busy organising this year’s cycle challenge which will take place on 19-21 September 2014 and will see his team of cyclists travelling over 100 miles from Portland Bill to Salcombe.
