RECORD numbers of businesses have joined the Plymouth Science Park over the past three months.

Since June, 15 new businesses have relocated to the 25 acre site near Derriford Hospital which specialises in supporting businesses in the areas of science, technology, marine and digital.

The park is a world-class office, research and laboratory environment that provides the space, flexibility and support for businesses to accelerate their growth and success.

Its community of 80 businesses employing upwards of 800 people, combines to create one of the South West’s most desirable working environments - plus it offers a free mentoring service for all businesses on site through it’s bespoke Advisory Board.

Park Director of Operations Christian Jenkins said: “We are a world class site offering world class facilities and are passionate about helping the businesses here grow and change. We are delighted that our message of support and excellence is getting out there and are thrilled to welcome so many outstanding businesses to our burgeoning community.

“Never before have we seen such an influx - in comparison last year in August we had just one business joining - and this increase in business numbers reflects the outstanding excellence of the business advice and support we offer here.”

The vast majority of startup businesses joining the Plymouth Science Park are still trading three years after launch and on average businesses joining the park see their business grow by 30%.

Professor David Coslett, Interim Vice-Chancellor of the University of Plymouth, said: “You can tell a great deal about the economic mind-set of a city from the incubation and innovation space it provides for its businesses. So Plymouth Science Park speaks volumes for the ambitions of our city and the region, in supporting high-growth, innovative businesses that seek to transform our South West economy.”
