Plymouth business Sponge UK, which is one of Britain’s fastest growing digital learning companies, has opened a new UK office after another successful year.

The award-winning company, which creates innovative workplace learning solutions for global organisations, officially opened its new office in Nottingham on Thursday, 14 December 2017.

Since American-born entrepreneur Louise Pasterfield founded the business in 2004, Sponge has grown more than eight fold.

In 2017 alone, Sponge’s turnover increased by nearly 60 percent, creating 40 new jobs, most of which are based at the company’s head office at Plymouth Science Park.  The business also has an office at Moorgate in London.

Sponge now plans a recruitment drive for the New Year, looking for talented professionals across a range of roles including learning designers and project managers.

“More and more companies are looking to us for creative learning solutions that use advanced learning technologies to help people learn and grown,” explains Louise Pasterfield. “Forward-thinking organisations want to embrace innovations like virtual reality learning and microlearning to unlock improved performance and increase engagement among their employees. The coming year promises to be an exciting one as artificial intelligence and machine learning really start to transform the way we learn at work.”

Sponge’s clients include the likes of Coca-Cola, Toyota, adidas, Tesco, GlaxoSmithKline, the NHS and the United Nations.

The company’s unusual name comes from its belief that when workplace learning is successful people absorb what they need to know like a sponge.

In 2017, the company won three major industry awards, and in 2016 Sponge was named in the Sunday Times Top 100 Best Small Companies To Work For.

With more than 100 employees across the UK, the company is one of the leaders in custom digital learning in Europe and plans to open a new office in the EU during the course of 2018.
