Greenergy has sponsored School Crossing Patrol staff - lovingly known as lollipop ladies and men - throughout Plymouth to help highlight the importance of everyday safety.

New top of the range uniforms help shield lollipop staff from the wind and rain while making them highly visible to traffic.

Greenergy, the UK’s largest fuel supplier, is an established presence on the waterfront in Plymouth and has owned the Cattedown and Mayflower fuel terminals since 2008. Under Greenergy’s ownership both sites have undergone an extensive five year regeneration programme to modernise and extend the facilities and ensure supply security in the South West.

Plymouth City Council provides School Crossing Patrol services at 31 locations close to schools throughout the city. The school crossing patrols’ main task is to help both parents and children safely cross the road, providing an extra set of eyes and ears to protect children on their way to school.

They also provide a visible reminder for motorists to slow down and use caution, especially when the stop sign is being displayed.

Vincent Atkins, Street Crossing Patrol Officer said: “It’s so satisfying being able to help these children and give them little bits of help and advice. I enjoy coming to the school and seeing everyone safely across the road. The new coats are great, especially with all the bad weather we’ve had recently.”

Andrew Owens, Greenergy Chief Executive, said: “Safety is always our top priority on-site and we wanted to find a way of sharing this commitment with the community. School Crossing Patrol Staff play a vital role in helping children get to and from school and we’re proud to be associated with their hard work andcommitment to everyday safety.”

Councillor Sue McDonald, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Public Health said: “Our school crossing patrols are out in all weathers providing an essential front line service. I’m delighted that that Greenergy have taken a proactive approach to supporting road safety. The School Crossing Patrol is highly valued by all those that use it.”
