Saatchi & Saatchi worldwide director to speak at Plymouth University

A senior figure at one of the world’s top creative agencies is coming to Plymouth University in a bid to inspire the designers of the future.

Derek Lockwood is Worldwide Director of Design at Saatchi & Saatchi, the global advertising agency which has 140 offices in 76 countries and employs over 6,500 staff.

Part of his role is to travel the world searching for the best design practices and future talent, and as part of his latest trip he will be giving a public lecture at the next meeting of the University’s Designers Society.

Graphic Design student Rebecca Matthews, who is President of the Designers Society, said: “Saatchi & Saatchi are one of biggest names in global design, so to have Derek Lockwood coming to Plymouth University is a major coup. It will be fascinating to hear about life in one of the industry’s best known companies, and the ways we might follow in his footsteps. It is also an opportunity for us to see how we can potentially make an impact on the design world of the future.”

Mr Lockwood has more than 20 years’ experience in advertising and design, and has been involved with a variety of start-ups and global networks, across all categories.

He lives in New Zealand, but sits on the Worldwide Creative Board and spends a good portion of his time traveling throughout the network, working with Saatchi & Saatchi’s clients and people worldwide.

His lecture - titled 'The Future of Design' - is taking place in lecture room 018 of the University’s Rolle Building on Monday 29 April at 4.30pm, and is open to staff, students and members of the public. It is free to members of the Designers Society, but there will be charges for non-members, and for more information email designers.society@gmail.com.
