Plymouth man dies after being hit by van

A 46-year-old man has died after being in collision with a van in Plymouth on Thursday [29 December].

Emergency services were called to Outland Road at 5.35pm after the collision outside the Esso Home Park service station.

The victim, from Devonport in Plymouth, was crossing the road when he was struck by a white Ford Transit Connect van in lane one of the Manadon-bound carriageway.

He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital where he died a short time later.

The van driver, a 41-year-old man from Plymouth, was not injured in the collision.

The Manadon-bound carriageway was closed between Lyndhurst Road and the Venn Lane footbridge for five-and-a-half hours while officers carried out a forensic examination of the scene.

Officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation team are investigating the collision and are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
