Plymouth car park wins national award
Plymouth’s newest car park has picked up a prestigious award at the British Parking awards.
The British Parking Awards is an independent competition that recognises the leading examples of car park management, enforcement, design and team work.
Mayflower Street West Car Park beat off competition from other councils and the private sector to be named the ‘Best Surface Car Park'. This award recognises the high quality design, build and facilities of any individual car park.
The judges were looking for car parks whose design and construction included:
- High quality materials and finish
- Showed co-operation between the developer, designers and planning authority
- Featured excellent signing of vehicle and pedestrian paths
- Act as gateways to destinations.
Mayflower West re-opened last year as part of the City Council’s new coach station. It’s one of Plymouth’s flag ship car parks and boasts the latest parking and CCTV technology.
Councillor Steve Ricketts, the Cabinet Member responsible for Parking said: “We are very proud that Plymouth’s newest car park has been recognised at a national level. The site has been completely transformed from what it was. Not only are we making the most of the space with our new coach station, we wanted to make sure as much parking was made available as possible to encourage more people parking here and popping in to see what our independent businesses have to offer.”
