With enough glitz and glamour to satisfy even the most discerning trendsetter Plymouth's Fabulous Fashion in the City event – which runs from Saturday, September 3rd to Sunday 11th - promises everything from top catwalk shows and a mobile Beauty Bus to fantastic competitions.

City retailers, Plymouth College of Art students and the City Centre Company have joined forces for the event and thousands of people are expected to come to the city to check out the latest cutting edge styles.

The idea is to boost Plymouth’s reputation as one of the UK’s premier shopping destinations, complete with designer labels, big brands and high street favourites.

Plymouth City Centre Company spokesman Jon Walton said: “This is going to be a truly glamorous yet inclusive event.

“We want to show people that Britain’s Ocean City is more than a great holiday destination – it’s a great place to shop as well, with High Street favourites, high-end fashion and showcasing wonderful local designers.

“It’s also the largest retail centre in Devon and Cornwall, with something for everyone, and this event will prove what a stylish and vibrant city it is.”

From the 6th a special Beauty Bus will be touring the city and outlying areas with stylists giving make-up, hair styling and glamour advice courtesy of training provider GHQ and City College Plymouth beauty students.

The bus will be at Plympton Ridgeway on Tuesday the 6th; Plymstock Broadway on Wednesday the 7th; Ivybridge on Thursday 8th, Royal William Yard on Friday  9th and Place de Brest in the city centre on Saturday the 10th.

Throughout the nine days special Fashion Afternoon Teas will be available at cafes, bars and restaurants around the city wherever the Fashion in the City logo is posted.

The promenade Fashion Foundations exhibition, in collaboration with Plymouth College of Art, will showcase the work of local photographers and some of the students’ current projects in a variety of locations across the city centre.

The exhibition will showcase images from Plymouth's archives alongside modern photography from Plymouth College of Art and London Fashion Week.

From the 6th until the 11th the eagle-eyed can go on a fashion hunt around the City Window Trail stores for the chance to win a personal shopping experience with Debenhams, complete with a £250 voucher to spend in-store.

On the 9th shoppers and visitors will be hunting for Models in the Wild – where models will be running free waiting to take photos and selfies to share on social media using #PlymouthFITC.

On the 8th and 9th at the Central Library there will be a Fashion Pop-Up displaying fashion items from across the decades with a photo booth ready to capture the current signature styles of visitors.

And then the hotly anticipated two-day catwalk show kicks off on the 10th at Drake Circus with everything from the new Autumn and Winter collections of top stores to hair and beauty demonstrations as well as advice from fashion recruitment experts for anyone dreaming of pursuing a career in the fashion industry.

Hosted by Heart Radio’s Josh Andrews the shows will also feature the graduate collections from the next generation of aspiring designers from the Plymouth College of Art.

The Fashion in the City event is sponsored by Drake Circus and partners Plymouth College of Art, City College Plymouth, GHQ and designer store Flannels, where the event’s official launch will take place on Friday, September 2nd with a special Fashion Show preview.
