Council hosts the city’s fourth Building Plymouth summit
Plymouth City Council is bringing together some of the region’s key construction and built environment companies for the city’s fourth Building Plymouth Summit.
The twice yearly summits are an opportunity for people to find out the latest developments on the Council-led partnership to address the sector’s skills shortage and gaps.
Building Plymouth was launched after it was identified that an estimated 10,000 construction related jobs will be needed over the next ten years in the city.
Among organisations sponsoring this event are Kier, Midas, Morgan Sindall, mi-space, Redrow, AECOM, SWH Group, Ryearch, Stride Treglown, CITB, Plymouth Construction Training Group, Plymouth Community Homes, Constructing Excellence, Millfields Trust, City College Plymouth, Skills Group and South Devon College.
Council Leader Ian Bowyer said: “Building Plymouth is key in helping us to work together in promoting the diverse jobs that are currently available in the local construction industry. Our aim is to get more people connected to employers, inspire school leavers by the wide-ranging career opportunities and the help the existing workforce gain additional skills.”
Speakers include David Bayliss from Stride Treglown, Andy Witnall from BAM Construction, Mark Wildman from Ryearch, Soo Brizell-Hogg from the Shekinah Mission, Lesley Code from SWH Group, Gary West from JCP, Bernadette Parkinson from the Plymouth Construction Training Group and Emma Hewitt the dedicated Skills Co-ordinator for Building Plymouth.
Councillor Bowyer added: “2016 has been an extremely exciting year for Plymouth as we’ve seen the start of some major construction projects. I am confident that the tremendous support from industry and our key stakeholders will enable us to build a city fit for the future, with employment and skills benefits for our residents. Building Plymouth is really helping us to achieve our goals and I’d like to personally thank our 18 project sponsors for investing in this fantastic initiative with the Council.”
The summit is being held on Tuesday 18 October 2016 from 8am to 10am at the Future Inn. Book at www.eventbrite.com/e/building-plymouth-summit-4-tickets-27824472747
