Changes to traffic calming on Central Park Avenue

The traffic island on Central Park Avenue is being removed this week following feedback from residents

The priority give way feature is being replaced with warning signs alerting motorists about the road humps. The signs should ensure vehicles slow down as they approach the new crossing point at the junction of Central Park Avenue and Dale Road.

The work is taking place after a consultation on proposed changes to traffic calming in the area.

Councillor Steve Ricketts, Cabinet Member for Transport and Housing Delivery said: “We are absolutely committed to keeping this city moving which is why I insisted on the need for the traffic island to be reconsidered after receiving a number of complaints from both local residents and motorists alike. By removing the island and replacing it with warning signs and road markings, we are able to keep the flow of traffic moving without bringing it to a complete stop.”

The works will take place on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 October and while they are being carried out, two-way temporary lights will be in operation on Central Park Avenue.

As part of the summer consultation residents also commented on a patch of resurfacing which could not be completed due to parked cars. The missing section of resurfacing will be finished on the night of the 18 October.
