Investors have been finding out how to maximise returns on their finances in today’s unpredictable global marketplace at a special lunch organised by Goodmans financial planners in Devon.

The respected South West-based independent financial planning company, which has offices in Totnes and Plymouth and plans for a third in Exeter, invited clients from across the region to the annual event at Plymouth’s historic Duke of Cornwall Hotel.

There they had chance to meet the team of specialists who are managing their money and find out how Goodmans is working to protect and enhance their lifestyles and finances in today’s changeable international marketplace.

The company, which provides advice and planning for investors across the region, thanked investors who had gathered at the lunch.

Keynote speakers included founder David Goodman MBE who, following a decorated career in the Royal Navy, set up the company in Plymouth in 1995, and David Swanwick, vice president of Dimensional Fund Advisors, one of the global fund management companies that Goodmans works closely with.

While Mr Goodman regaled the floor with Navy tales, local history and the company’s origins, Mr Swanwick took the guests on and entertaining journey through the intricacies and anomalies of stocks and shares.

Sharing a number of amusing and thought-provoking insights, including the tale of top share-tipping cat Orlando, Mr Swanwick described how flexibility and longevity are key to ensuring successful investment growth.

Finbarr O’Reilly, director and senior financial planner for Goodmans, updated the audience on tax implications of the recent Budget, before director Andrew Moore closed the event with a roundup of the previous year and an insight into how clients can help shape the future of the company through the set up of a new Client Advisory Board.

As Goodmans’ fresh approach to financial planning continues to attract more and more savvy investors, there are plans to expand the business, with a third office T due to open in Exeter in the next 18 months.

Goodmans specialises in creating plans tailored to suit every individual client and their unique lifestyle requirements, enabling them to implement a game plan for a comfortable retirement without any fear of future financial security.
