A remarkable double bill featuring two key figures from the British jazz scene.

Alan Barnes’ strong tone, assured improvisations and imaginative arranging technique have marked him out as one of the country’s top saxophonists and clarinetists, respected by audience, critics and fellow players alike. He has twice won the prestigious BBC Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year award.

In a remarkable achievement, David Newton was voted Best Jazz Pianist in the British Jazz Awards for the tenth time in 2011.

His partnership with Alan Barnes is legendary, with a strong musical rapport. David has received international recognition both as a soloist and as an exquisite accompanist with many great singers, including Stacey Kent and Claire Martin.

‘Barnes is a brilliant multi-instrumentalist who’s at home with the jazz repertoire of 30s and 40s swing, and the subsequent “modern” jazz style of bebop. He’s one of the UK’s key jazz figures.’ John Fordham, The Guardian.

‘There is always more to Newton’s playing than first meets the ear. The surface may be smooth, but there are all kinds of clever, subtle things going on beneath.’ Dave Gelly.
