Imaging the Microcosm
Facing up to Beetles
Encounter beetles at their own scale, face on and magnified over 100 times!
Featuring images of British beetles this is an opportunity to gain an understanding of the beauty and elegance that is displayed by these tiny animals.
This exhibition will also look at all of the useful and often unknown functions of beetles in the natural world that have an impact upon us all.
Looking at Insects
Our perception of insects has changed across the centuries, these changing attitudes have been reflected in the way that insects have been portrayed and recorded from the earliest illustrations to the hi-tech approach of today.
As technology has evolved so has our ways of investigating this hidden world of insects. The exhibition will feature scans of the first book on butterflies published, a series of posters depicting insect pests from the 1930’s, a 3D electron micrograph of a beetle and close-up photographs of startling vibrancy and intensity taken on a confocal fluorescence microscope.
Open Monday to Friday, 10am-7pm, Saturdays by appointment. Closed 18-21 April, 5& 26 May.
