The Transatlantic Politics of the Mayflower II With Randal Charlton

Join a discussion with Randal Charlton, son of Warwick Charlton, famed for the Project Mayflower and the construction of the Mayflower II, a replica of the original vessel.

Join an insightful discussion with Randal Charlton, son of Warwick Charlton, famed for the ambitious Project Mayflower and the construction of the Mayflower II, a replica of the original vessel built to recreate its voyage.

The building of the Mayflower ll happened to coincide with the 1956 Suez Crisis and a major rift in US/UK relations. At the same time France and other European countries committed to the European Union. Britain desperately needed to build new trade links with America.

Partly by design and partly by fortunate timing Mayflower II played a significant role back in 1957 in both repairing political relations and driving trade.

In this talk we will consider the political moments that provide a framework for the building of the Mayflower II.
