Adult Learners' Week is an opportunity for individuals and organisations to celebrate the benefits of lifelong learning. Whether you're an individual looking at anything from improving your current job prospects to learning just for fun, or an organisation looking to help support adults with lifelong learning, Adult Learners' Week is for you.

Saturday 18 May

Adult Learner's Zone
Pop in on Lord Mayor's Day and discover more about local adult learning opportunities, 9am-1pm, Enterprise Gateway, Roland Levinsky Building

Monday 20 May

Explore Your Future. Dare to Dream: Believe and you will achieve.
Accompany special guest speaker, Polar Explorer and Plymouth University's Explorer-in-Residence Antony Jinman on a cinematic trek to the Arctic and North Pole. Antony will be reliving his Polar adventures with you with stunning film footage taken during his expeditions. Find out how Antony overcame some significant setbacks and barriers to pursue his dream and discover how with self-belief and determination, you can do the same. 6pm-7pm.

All you wanted to know about University but were afraid to ask...
So you want to go to University.  Where and how do you get started? Is it do-able financially? Do you need armfuls of qualifications? These are some of the questions that Adult Guidance Worker will be addressing in this informal talk alongside current mature students who can give you an insight into their experiences.
7pm-8pm.

Followed by a pasty supper at the Devonport Lecture Theatre, Portland Square Building.

Tuesday 21 May

Make a Difference Day: Change your world; help others change theirs
Information and workshops for adults exploring the Health, Primary Education and Social Work sectors.

Featuring:

• An Introduction to Social Work, followed by a thought-provoking workshop
• An Introduction to Teaching - with a focus on Primary Education
• Successfully study with a disability
• Mythbusting for the Men: Advice for men taking a new career direction in Health, Social Work and Primary Education including information our new "Men into Primary" placement scheme.

Confirmed exhibitors to date include students and staff representatives from: dietetics, midwifery, nursing (adult, child and mental health), optometry, paramedicine, podiatry, social Work.

1pm-5pm, Devonport Lecture Theatre, Portland Square Building.

A doorstep discovery of Plymouth's past
The War in Plymouth: Destruction and a New Beginning
Plymouth suffered untold damage in the Blitz, with 4,000 homes destroyed, however what were the effects of reconstruction between 1945 and 1955?
Professor of Contemporary History, Kevin Jeffreys and the Word Machine Community Interest Company’s Simon Petherick are on a mission to explore the impact of the Blitz and the subsequent rebuild on the people of Plymouth in this oral history project. 6pm-6.45pm.

Who Do You Think You Are? and beyond! Introducing Plymouth and West Devon Records Office
Learning officer Tony Davey shows you how to access over 900 years of Plymouth's History through the varied collections held at the City's Archives. 7pm-8pm.

Followed by a pasty supper, Devonport Lecture Theatre, Portland Square Building.
