Plymouth College of Art is happy to welcome independent arts consultant Gill Nicol to the college to hold a talk entitled 'A return to beauty - the future of contemporary art?' as part of our Conversations... series.

"Since 2000, we can potentially see artists making work in particular ways: as researchers; returning to craft; collaborating with others; unfixed and unfinished works; open-ended conversations and encounters. All this was visible within the last British Art Show 7 (BAS7), shown in Plymouth in 2011.

"This year’s Venice Biennale saw curator/director Massimiliano Gioni creating an exhibition in the Italian Pavilion that focused on the internal realm of dreams, images and visions. A return to the surrealist agenda – a return to beauty?"

With over 25 years' experience in the arts, Gill - who specialises in contemporary crafts - has worked for the likes of Tate Liverpool, Arnolfini in Bristol, and Birmingham's Ikon Gallery - working in audience development and more.

She is a passionate communicator and a confident trainer, with a focus on mentoring artists and creative businesses.
