This event focuses on fascinating art and life of Lucien Freud. Freud fled Nazism in 1939 spending much of his early life in Totnes.
The Big Draw 2013: Almighty Myths

Join in, explore and draw the families and myths of the Roman Gods – many of which are featured in our historically important Cottonian Collection.

Luke Fowler: The Poor Stockinger, The Luddite Cropper And The Deluded Followers Of Joanna Southcott
Plymouth Arts Centre, Ongoing
Luke Fowler is an artist who works with film, sound, installation and photography.
This new film focuses on the work of Marxist historian Edward Palmer Thompson who, at the age of 25, was employed by the WEA (Workers’ Educational Association) in Yorkshire. He taught literature and history to adults who, historically, had been unable to access higher education, including miners, factory workers and the unemployed. E.P Thompson and his peers, Raymond Williams and Richard Hoggart, were committed to the WEA values of delivering a ‘socially purposeful’ education and to the cause of adult education as an engine for cultural democracy.
The film is screened in a loop from 10 am, last screening 7.10pm
Gareth Neal: Process, Place, People

This new exhibition by Gareth Neal brings together a number of existing works to explore and draw out the connections that each piece makes to process, place and people.
The show includes Gareth’s recent project In pursuit of carbon neutral, as much a research project as an experimental endeavour. In the winter of 2012 two Ash trees were felled in a woodland in Herefordshire. Gareth cycled to the woodland from London and lived a lowimpact Carbon lifestyle for several weeks by eating local produce, sleeping outdoors and not using any electricity, with the aim of demonstrating the potential for carbon negative furniture production in the 21st century.
Contemporary Textiles Exhibition: Meet the Artists
