Could you be an on-call firefighter? Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is holding recruitment open evenings for people who live or work within five minutes of Plymstock, Plympton or Crownhill fire stations.

On-call firefighters are paid to respond to emergencies from their workplace or from home when needed. Often they are self-employed or work for an employer within the area, or are at home during the day. They need to be able to react quickly, work well in a team and have a good level of fitness. No firefighting experience is necessary as training is provided for those who are successful in the selection process.

Area Commander Steve West said: “This is the first time we have recruited for on-call firefighters in the city, and it’s a great opportunity to for local people and employers - there are many benefits of having an employee who is also a member of the Service.

“I would encourage anyone who is interested in joining our team of professional men and women serving their community to look at our recruitment pages at www.dsfire.gov.uk for more information about the role and the Service, and call 01752 333626 to book a place at one of our recruitment evening events.”

Recruitment evenings are being held at Plympton Fire Station on various dates from 21 October onwards. If you live or work within five minutes of Plympton, Plymstock or Crownhill fire station and are interested in becoming an on-call firefighter, or are an employer who would like to find out more, book a place by calling 01752 333626 from 10 October.
