Put your antiques knowledge to the test at the Honiton Show

Chilcotts Auctioneers are returning to the Honiton Show trade stand line-up this year after a three-year absence, inviting visitors to put their antiques knowledge to the test while raising money for a local charity.

The Honiton auction house is recreating the popular 'Basic, Better, Best' game from BBC’s Antiques Roadshow. Visitors will be challenged to rank three items from the same category of antiques in order of value, with entry costing £2 in aid of Devon Air Ambulance.

Liz Chilcott said: "It's not as straightforward as people might think! Condition, hallmarks and historical provenance can all affect value, and we'll be giving people a few clues along the way."

Everyone who correctly identifies the order will be entered into a prize draw to win a luxury hamper from Honiton's Ganesha, worth around £80, with the winner announced at 3pm on the day.

The show will also be the first public outing for Chilcotts' new blue and yellow branded marquee, introduced as part of the company's refreshed identity last year. Visitors can also see two vintage motorbikes from the firm's August 11 auction, along with a selection of other items due to go under the hammer.

Anyone who signs up to the Chilcotts mailing list or books a valuation at the stand will receive a complimentary goody bag.

Liz added: "As a local business that's been part of the community for 22 years, we're delighted to be back at the Honiton Show and look forward to catching up with familiar faces and meeting plenty of new ones."

Chilcotts Auctioneers will be on stand A20, between WBW Solicitors and Westcotts Accountants.
