Cranbrook continues to grow rapidly as East Devon’s newest and fastest developing town. Since 2011, more than 3,400 new homes have been built, alongside two schools, a railway station, and a country park. The town centre is also taking shape, with shops, new homes, and a Morrisons supermarket already open. A new nursery is set to open in September 2026, with more facilities planned as development continues.

In 2023, East Devon District Council (EDDC) asked residents for their views to help shape the Cranbrook Town Centre Masterplan. People told the council that a leisure centre with a swimming pool, plus a health and wellbeing centre including GP services, were their top priorities.

In October 2024, EDDC’s Strategic Planning Committee approved the final masterplan, which outlines the key locations and ideas for the town centre’s future. The plan includes a site for the new Cranbrook Leisure, Health and Wellbeing Campus, with the proposed Leisure Centre located at the southern end of the town centre, just north of Badger Way.

Now residents are invited to see the latest proposals and share their thoughts on this major new community facility.

Cllr Nick Hookway, EDDC’s Portfolio Holder for Culture, Leisure, Sport & Tourism, said: "This is an exciting and long-awaited step for Cranbrook. Residents have made it clear that high-quality leisure, health, and wellbeing facilities are a top priority, and we’re thrilled to be moving forward with plans shaped directly by their feedback. I encourage everyone to check out the proposals and take part in the survey. Your views will help create a centre that works for the whole community."
