Egypt often evokes images of ancient pyramids, bustling markets, and the mighty Nile, but for many, safety concerns can overshadow the excitement of exploring this extraordinary destination.

Fortunately, there are numerous safe spots where you can immerse yourself in the rich history and natural beauty. If you're thinking about booking an Egypt holiday, there are many places where you can feel at ease while discovering a land of unparalleled allure.

Cairo

Cairo, the capital city, can be a whirlwind of activity and remains a vibrant and relatively safe destination for tourists.

Home to the world-renowned Pyramids of Giza, the Giza Plateau is a must-see and has long been a staple for travellers. Though Cairo’s bustling streets can be overwhelming, areas around the pyramids and the Egyptian Museum are well-policed, offering you a safe space to enjoy these ancient wonders.

When exploring the city, stay in reputable hotels and plan your day trips. Local guides can make your experience safer and more enjoyable. As long as you stick to well-travelled areas, you can fully immerse yourself in the culture and history without feeling uneasy.

Luxor

Luxor is known as the world’s greatest open-air museum. The city is home to iconic sites like the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Karnak, and the Luxor Temple.

Despite being located in Upper Egypt, far from the country’s political hotspots, Luxor has become a safe haven for those wanting to experience the grandeur of ancient Egypt.

The atmosphere here is tranquil, with the Nile flowing gently alongside the ruins. Security is tight at major tourist sites, and local authorities ensure that visitors can explore in peace.

Opt for guided tours for added safety and an enriching experience. If you choose to stay in hotels near the Nile, you’ll also benefit from added security and stunning views.

Aswan

Aswan, a smaller city located further south, offers a more relaxed pace. It’s the perfect destination if you want to escape the more hectic tourist areas while still experiencing Egypt’s grandeur.

Here, you can marvel at the Philae Temple, take a boat ride to see the Nubian villages, or visit the remarkable High Dam.

Aswan is regarded as one of the safest cities for travellers, with a reputation for hospitality. Much like Luxor, Aswan has an abundance of local tour guides who can take you to various sites, meaning you can navigate the area safely.

Red Sea Resorts: Hurghada & Sharm El Sheikh

If your idea of Egyptian holidays includes some time by the sea, look no further than the Red Sea resorts of Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh. These two towns are known for their luxury hotels, pristine beaches, and excellent diving opportunities.

Both locations have a strong presence of international tourists, which makes them highly secure and well-established for holidaymakers.

The resorts are easily accessible, with modern infrastructure and plenty of things to do – whether you're lounging on the beach, diving in the coral reefs, or visiting nearby attractions like Mount Sinai.

Resort staff are typically very attentive, and as these areas are major tourism hubs, you’ll find tight security measures in place.
