Here’s how Tiverton locals can turn their worst Christmas present into a sentimental gift this December
A used candle, a mop and bucket, and a tube of toothpaste – the UK’s worst Christmas presents have been revealed – but what’s the worst gift someone’s received in Tiverton?
After new research from MyFUJIFILM has revealed that almost one in three (32%) Brits admit they unwrap a dud every year or most years, the online photo-gifting store from Fujifilm is calling on Tiverton locals to share what the worst Christmas present they’ve ever received is.
In return, one gift recipient will claim the title of Britain’s Worst Gift Receiver, as well as receiving an instax mini 41™ instant camera, a 10-pack of instax mini film and a personalised photo book of their choice from MyFUJIFILM which they can cherish for many Christmases to come.
It comes as a new survey of 2,000 UK adults commissioned by MyFUJIFILM revealed friends topped the naughty list, with 17% saying their worst-ever Christmas gift came from a mate. Partners and spouses weren’t far behind at 10%, followed by distant relatives (10%) and even parents (9%).
And it seems disappointing presents are a regular feature under the tree. Among the most common Christmas clangers are mismatched socks, broken mugs, toothpaste – and even a mop and bucket.
Keeping with British tradition, most remain polite and hide their true emotions when receiving a disappointing gift, with 40% smiling and saying ‘thank you’, and 20% pretending to love it.
Only a small minority let their real feelings show, with 3% admitting to visible disappointment and 2% going full-Grinch with anger.
The research also reveals what Brits do want. Functional items top the list (41%), followed by personal or sentimental gifts (36%), presents that spark happy memories (32%), and long-lasting keepsakes (29%).
When it comes to dream gifts, 24% would most like a framed photo of a special moment, and 16% say a personalised photo book — putting photo gifts ahead of novelty items, board games, and stationery.
Jon Difford, Deputy, General Manager – Imaging Solutions at FUJIFILM UK, said:
“Every year, people unwrap presents that clearly come from a good place but unfortunately miss the mark. From last-minute panic buys to well-meant but impractical choices, there’s a whole world of gifts that end up forgotten, unused, or quietly stashed away. “That’s why we’re championing gifts that mean something. A personalised photo gift is thoughtful, emotional, long-lasting, and impossible to panic-buy at a service station. It’s a simple way to turn Christmas from stressful to sentimental – and to make sure nobody has to fake a smile when unwrapping something they don’t want or need.
“We look forward to hearing about the worst presents Tiverton locals have received – with the chance to bag the title of ‘Britain’s Worst Gift Receiver’, and get their hands on some amazing instax and MyFUJIFILM products to turn their gifting fortunes around.”
