Moorland Fuels Raises over £1,300 for Age UK Devon

Okehampton-based Moorland Fuels, which has provided domestic, agriculture and commercial fuel services to customers across the South West for more than 20 years, has donated over £1,300 to Age UK Devon as part of its ‘What matters to you, matters to us’ commitment.

Ranging from free ‘scams awareness’ training through to homes support, and even foot care, Age UK Devon provides a vital point of contact, support and information for older people across the county.

Part of Moorland Fuels’ ‘Giving Back’ commitment, Age UK Devon received a donation for every fuel and oil delivery made between March and the end of June, providing much needed money for the charity.

Sophie Littlewood, Chief Executive of Age UK Devon, commented on the news, saying: “We can’t thank Moorland Fuels and their kind customers enough. Their support has been fantastic and will enable us to help older members of the community enjoy a better quality of life, which is a truly wonderful thing!”

Since becoming employee-owned in 2022, Moorland Fuels has focused on introducing a series of new initiatives and rewards that have been designed to support the communities within which it works, while also enhancing customer experience and loyalty.

This has included the introduction of the Moorland Fuels’ Cold Weather Priority Scheme, ensuring that customers with medical conditions that making them susceptible to the cold, or those over the age of 75, receive priority deliveries of heating oil during cold-weather snaps.

Moorland Fuels also became the first fuel delivery company in the South West to lower its minimum orders of heating oil for pensioners from 500 litres to just 300 litres, helping to spread the cost of heating oil into smaller instalments.

Abby Turner, Director of Moorland Fuels, explains: “We’re big believers in people and working together towards a shared goal. That’s why we launched the Moorland Fuels ‘Giving Back Scheme’, as we knew it was something that our customers would really get behind.

“Through their orders, we have been able to raise a four-figure sum. That money will now go towards helping older members of our community, many of whom live in remote rural locations or off-grid villages.

“For us, it’s great to know that we will be providing a lifeline not only through our support for Age UK Devon, but through deliveries of heating oil when our customers need it most.”

Abby Turner added: “As an employee owned business, we’re driven by passion and a commitment to our customers. We exist to fuel the heartbeat of our local community. That includes supporting charities that make a meaningful difference to people’s lives.”

Users of heating oil interested in joining Moorland Fuels can do so by signing up to its Cosy Heating Club, which gives monthly Direct Debit customers a range of benefits, including the chance to win 500 litres of heating oil every quarter.
