Simpkins Edwards hosts successful healthcare focused event in Exeter
South West accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards is celebrating the success of its specialist event designed to equip GP practices with practical strategies for managing rising costs while embracing sustainability.
Around 50 delegates from Devon, Cornwall and Somerset attended The Business of General Practice, a free one-day seminar at Sandy Park in Exeter, which addressed critical challenges facing practices including escalating staff costs, pension planning and the integration of environmental measures into business operations.
A highlight of the day came from Karen Creffield of Frome Medical Centre who shared case studies showing how sustainability initiatives such as waste reduction and energy efficiency can deliver both environmental and commercial benefits.
With over 20 years' experience supporting healthcare professionals, Simpkins Edwards structured the day to combine financial expertise with forward-thinking business strategy. For example, Healthcare Consultant Lucie Simic discussed the importance of creating positive workplace cultures where staff feel valued, while Jenna Clark, Simpkins Edwards Director of Healthcare Services, provided practical guidance on managing pay rises and their structural implications.
Other speakers included George York, Aquila Financial Management on NHS Pension Scheme planning, Seb Beard, Simpkins Edwards Partner with 2024/25 healthcare financial benchmarks, and Ian Crompton, Primary Care Finance, who shared surgery finance options and implementation strategies.
Jenna Clark said: "This event brings together practices and healthcare specialists to share ideas, information and best practice - and it was another resounding success. It's fantastic to bring people together who share the aim of delivering primary care services in an efficient and sustainable way. We've had some wonderful feedback."
Delegates praised the practical focus of the sessions as being “hugely informative”, providing “valuable insight” and giving them motivation to try new ideas.
Simpkins Edwards will be exhibiting at Best Practice Birmingham on October 8, where they will continue to share insights with healthcare professionals seeking expert financial guidance and strategic support.
