If you have been renting for the past while you’ll probably have been getting sick and tired of changes that you want to make but simply can’t.

Once you buy your home though, the possibilities can feel overwhelming - your home is your own now, you can do what you want with it.

But this can easily prove to be a complex and costly process that involves planning permission, contractors and a whole lot of time invested.

During your first year, you’re going to want to make your home your own, but having just bought a house, you’re not going to want to break the bank.

So with that in mind, here are some changes that you can make that are fairly quick and easy which will make your home uniquely yours.

The Colour Scheme

A great place to start; get a lick of paint around the place - whether you’re looking for a lush green rustic look or something sleek and modern.

Having a home that suits your aesthetic colour schemes is a great way to make it feel like your own from the get-go.

Whether you are looking to invest some good old DIY time, or you’re bringing on a painter-decorator, you can totally change up a house's colour scheme in a week or so.

There are so many options with both paint and wallpaper home design that can make a house a home.

Your house may not be any bigger or smaller, but a colour scheme can make it feel that way for both those chasing the homely, cosy look and those seeking something more vast and minimalist.

The Walls

It’s not just colour that’ll make a difference, you can actually make those changes that you were itching to make in your rented home.

Once you make sure there’s no piping that will be damaged you can drill away to your hearts’ desire!

Once you own the walls you can populate them with decor and shelving and can make your home both stylish and practical.

You can even think outside the box - keen cyclist but your partner keeps on giving you hassle about that bike in the hallway? Now you can tuck it away out of reach on some wall mounts!

Fancy Furnishing

If you have only lived in furnished accommodation and you’re starting out on your own, there are some great ways to find furniture that’s ‘you’.

You don’t have to drop thousands of pounds on a designer furniture store, usually, you can pick up great sturdy furniture on the cheap.

Don’t turn your nose up at the Facebook marketplace, Gumtree or eBay - you can find reputable sellers who are just looking to shift some furniture that they have replaced.

You can get a reliable and practical kit at a fraction of the price if you bought new ones!

The ‘Afterthoughts’

Sometimes it’s the afterthoughts that make all of the difference, you can change the aesthetic of a home with a seemingly insignificant change.

Think about how much charm a traditional cast-iron radiator gives, like those that you can pick up at Trade Radiators, will bring to a home, or how much sleek modernity comes with automated blind shutters.

Features that many may consider an ‘added bonus’ may be exactly what your home needs to make it a unique reflection of you.
