
Will Novak Djokovic be the best tennis player of all time?
Following on from his triumph against Matteo Berrettini, Novak Djokovic now has a record number of major titles alongside Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Over recent years all three professional players have made a name for their selves with various wins and nail-biting games. They now all have 20 major titles to their name and show no signs of stopping anytime soon. In fact, well-known tennis champion Tim Henman has recently talked about the fact that he feels that Serbian player Djokovic could well beat Margaret Courts current world record of 24 Grand Slam titles, making him undoubtedly the best player of all time. What remains to be seen is whether this is something that he will achieve, although those in the know would say it’s a sure bet that he will – who knows?
Who Is Novak Djokovic?
Djokovic is a Serbian born tennis player that has been playing professionally since 2003, with no talk of retirement anytime soon. He has an impressive record – 20 Grand Slam Singles titles and 85 career titles, which is phenomenal by anyone's standards. He recently won the 2021 Wimbledon championship and is set to be on the Serbian team at this year’s Tokyo Olympics.
This Year’s Wimbledon
Novak’s win at Wimbledon will have cemented in many people’s minds the fact that he is destined to be the best player in the world. The whole of the Wimbledon tennis tournament was one that had the world’s eyes on it – as people like Andrew Castle talked of their excitement to be back. Castle, who is the BBC’s lead tennis commentator talked about how it was unbelievable to be back and see so many recognisable faces taking part or being in the audience – he even sat next to John McEnroe at one stage of the competition. After the event was cancelled in 2020 many people were geared up for disappointment this year, barely being able to believe they would take place. However, they did and it was a tournament full of headline hitting stories and of course, a successful completion for Djokovic who came out on top.
Will Novak Be The Best Player of All Time?
Although no one can say for certain that Novak will come out as the cream of the crop, his performances so far have certainly led people to believe it will happen. Of course, whether it comes true or not does depend on his future performances, but with a recent win at Wimbledon under his belt and the Tokyo Olympics his next big competition, those that are betting people could be forgiven for placing a bet on just how well he’ll do!
The Serbian player has plenty of fans but also those that are not keen for him to do well, however it is a firm belief that politics shouldn’t come into the sport and that he should be judged firm on his performance on the court – which has been breath-taking this year!
