Hospital teams up with local charity
Members of staff at popular hospital Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre have chosen Improving Lives Plymouth as their adopted charity for 2020.
The charity will work with Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre throughout the year, which sees the hospital’s 15th anniversary.
Improving Lives Plymouth can trace its history back to 1907. The charity delivers services and creates new ones to meet the needs of individuals, communities and organisations in and around Plymouth.
The charity also runs information, advice and support services for people with disabilities and long-term health conditions.
Operating from two bases in the city centre and Mannamead, Improving Lives Plymouth delivers a number of projects including: Active for All; Better Futures; Caring for Carers; Community Champions; Long-Term Condition Self-Management; Sensory Solutions and; Veterans and Family Hub. In order to run some of these initiatives the charity works with other organisations including Age UK, Devon and Cornwall Police, the Alzheimer’s Society and local NHS.
Surgical teams at Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre carry out a wide range of orthopaedic procedures for hips, knees, shoulder and elbows, feet and ankles, and hands and wrists, as well as cataract surgery and general surgery such as hernia repair and gall bladder removal. It provides comprehensive endoscopy and diagnostic imaging services. The hospital was the first of its kind to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission.

We are greatly impressed by the work the charity does in and around the city, and its ethos matches ours which is very much about putting the individual patient at the heart of everything we do. My colleagues are very enthusiastic about raising money for charity and they are very good at it – indeed, we already have a busy line up of fundraising activities leading to Christmas and more planned for the next year.”
