The new way to encourage zoo support in Cornwall and Devon
The Southwest of England boasts a tremendous selection of zoos, wildlife parks, and sanctuaries, including Dartmoor Zoological Park right here in Plymouth, Porfell Wildlife Park in Liskeard, Shaldon Zoo, Paignton Zoo, and the Buckfast Butterflies and Otter Sanctuary. While great for tourists and day trips, these zoos often play a vital role in the conservation of incredible species of animals, with their roles becoming increasingly important during these troubling environmental times.
Now more than ever, we need local people to show their support for the zoos, sanctuaries, and wildlife parks in Devon, Cornwall, and across the UK for that matter. As they can only do so much by way of advertising, it’s time that others helped to promote the adoration of animals through other means, with the help of one of the UK’s biggest industries.
The UK game industry accounts for 51.3 per cent of the UK’s entertainment market, greatly outselling music and video. The industry continues to grow in this country in all areas, with it contributing billions to the economy. Gaming has gone mainstream across all platforms and offers a unique way for people to get a hands-on and enjoyable experience with the topic or characters at hand, making it a powerful tool for those who want to promote people to help animals.
Encourage playing animal games
Games are a unique form of entertainment. Where music speaks to people and video demonstrates to people, games require people to think about the subject at hand, understand the situation, learn, and react in order to win. Finding a great game that involves animals promotes them by either providing hands-on interactions, teaching about the animals, or positively associating animals with fun gameplay, winning, or achievements.
The right game can do a lot to promote animals and educate people, encouraging the real-life pursuit of helping animals. This could go as far as donating to animal charities or just visiting local zoos and putting a note in the donation box. Either way, it helps the plight of zoos and animal conservation.
Great games that deliver positive associations with animals
We happen to be in a prime period of animal gaming across all platforms. It used to be that the Zoo Tycoon series held the best options, which unfortunately didn’t translate too well to the Xbox One. But there’s a grand range of games out now or on the way which promote animals through enjoyable gameplay.
On the computer, the most exciting upcoming game is Planet Zoo. The zoo simulator looks to be the most in-depth of its kind. Then there’s also Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, in which players take on the role of apes throughout history as they try to evolve into humans. But if fully-fledged video gaming isn’t of interest, there are the games Epic Ape, Buffalo Blitz, and Giant Grizzly available for online casino, which all tote the titular animals as being the key to exciting features.
Incoming to consoles are two tantalising games in which the user plays as animals in the wild. The first is Away: The Survival Series. In this nature documentary-inspired game, players take the role of a sugar glider as they try to survive in an ever-changing world. Then, there’s the more artsy Lost Ember, set to arrive later this year. Lost Ember is a set after the fall of civilisation and allows the player to play as any animal that they uncover in the vast world.
Games offer a unique way for people to connect to a subject, with these animal games being of a high enough quality to help encourage people to support animals however they can, including visiting local zoos.
