Britain boasts a hugely rich cultural heritage, reflected in its countless monuments, museums, galleries, theatres and cinemas. Its cities are steeped in ineffable mystique, only visible to the most observant of its residents and visitors. Nowhere is this more obvious than in London, where modern technology and tradition work together in harmony.

London has a wide range of cuisines, with many restaurants and places of art offering live music. Tourists looking for company while exploring the city can meet the most stunning escorts in London. The UK capital is home to over 200 museums and other attractions, a number in line with the magnitude of its history.

It is impossible for travellers to visit all of them in a short space of time. In addition, some of these places are best appreciated slowly, so you can immerse yourself in their exhibitions. For this reason, it is a good idea to refine your search by taking a look through a list of London’s most iconic museums. Read on to find out about the three most popular and typical ones:

British Museum

Located in central London, this is one of the oldest museums in the world. It is home to an extensive number of collections dedicated to the history and culture of humankind, with artefacts, coins, books, documents and paintings coming mainly from Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

This is one of the most widely-visited places in London since not only it is spectacular but admission is free. It is open every day from 10am to 5pm (8:30pm on Fridays). The only days its doors are closed are the 1st January and the 24th-26th December. You can get there by bus or tube from Holborn, Tottenham Court Road or Russell Square.

Tate Modern

Nestled on the south bank of the Thames in central London, the Tate Modern is known to many art specialists as one of the most extraordinary modern art museums in the world. Admission is free and you can get there by bus, boat or tube from Southwark or Blackfriars.

Among its installations are iconic works by artists such as Picasso, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Dali, Cezanne and many more. This makes it a must-see for any tourist. The Tate Modern is open every day: Sunday to Thursday from 10am-6pm and Friday and Saturday from 10am-10pm.

Natural History Museum

Located in West London, this is one of the greatest museums of natural history in the world. It is home to an enormous collection of over 70 million types of fauna, flora, fossils and minerals. It is known for its educational exhibitions, perfect for all the family, and its school visits.

It has very popular reconstructions of long-extinct animals such as dinosaurs, ancient amphibians and ice age mammals. Its doors are open every day from 10am to 5:45pm with free entry; the best way to get there is by tube from South Kensington or Gloucester Road.
