For a great family day out, look no further than the Mad Hatters Family Fun Day which is taking place on Sunday 7th July at the Boringdon Park Golf Club in Plymouth.

Sponsored by transatlantic law firm Womble Bond Dickinson, which has a large office in Plymouth, there’s a whole host of entertainment planned to keep all the family amused with all funds raised going to Veterans With Dogs, based in Devon.

From face painters and a bouncy castle to vintage stalls to stilt walkers and a circus workshop, there’s a whole host of activity planned. There will also be theatre and dance performances, workshops, ponies on parade and much, much more! Tickets cost just £2.50 person and parking is available on site.

Maria Emberson, Co-Chair of the Plymouth Responsible Business Committee at Womble Bond Dickinson, commented:

"We're proud to be supporting Veterans With Dogs and are delighted to take part in the event this summer.  The event is a perfect opportunity to highlight and raise awareness of the work of Veterans with Dogs who are addressing mental health issues in a unique and effective way. At Womble Bond Dickinson, we pride ourselves on being a Responsible Business and strongly believe that successful businesses should play an essential role in supporting local projects and initiatives in their local communities. This is why we support a number of causes locally and nationally."

For four-legged members of the family there will be a Mad Hatters Fun Dog Show sponsored by Forthglade Natural Dog Food. All entrants to the dog show will receive a special doggy goody bag.

Forthglade Natural Dog Food commented: “Forthglade, based in Devon produce delicious natural pet food for dogs. 100% natural and packed with delicious meats and vegetables, it’s guaranteed to set tails wagging. Forthglade have been supporting Veterans With Dogs, providing goody bags at our events and offering discounts on food for our veterans.  For more detail about the natural meals and treats visit www.forthglade.com.”

Commenting on the event, Craig MacLellan, CEO of Veterans With Dogs said: “This promises to be a great day out with plenty of things to do, see, buy and eat for all members of the family! We’re delighted that Womble Bond Dickinson is sponsoring the entire event and also grateful to Forthglade Natural Dog Food for their support of the dog show.

“Here’s hoping it’s a busy event so that we can raise as much money as possible to enable us to continue to help improve the quality of life of yet another veteran by providing them with their own assistance dog.”

Veterans With Dogs is the first UK registered charity to train assistance dogs to increase independence for the British ex-servicemen and women with “invisible injuries”, such as PTSD. It uses the PALS (Partner Animal Life Skills) Programme™ which is a unique, cutting-edge programme, developed from the inside-out by a team of professionals who understand the debilitating effects of mental health problems.

It costs approximately £20,000 to train one of the dogs and support it to the end of its working life, including the cost of buying the puppy. To date, Veterans With Dogs has helped over 100 veterans. However, with a waiting list of around 12+ months, more funds are needed so that more veterans with mental health issues can succeed in achieving a better quality of life.
