Are the people of Plymouth luckier than other Brits?

Regardless of how strongly you believe in the benevolent hand of fate, there's no denying that blind luck plays a huge role in all of our daily lives. You may have gotten where you are today through plenty of hard work, determination and grit, but there's no doubt that you owe a chunk of your success to simply being in the right place at the right time or just having a lucky day at the right moment.

If you feel like life isn't going your own way at the moment, that too is likely to be in large part down to bad luck. When we talk about what "luck" really means, we could be referring to circumstances of birth, or simply the amount of positive or negative occurrences in life that are shaped by external factors, ones which we as individuals have no agency over. A little bit of luck can make all of the difference. But what if people in one place happen to have more of that good luck than people of another?

With research beginning to explore this question across the UK, we thought we'd take a look at exactly how lucky Plymouth is. Read on to find out if the people of Plymouth really are luckier than the average Joe.

The research has been conducted and the numbers have been broken down. After conducting research on the residents of 634 cities around the world, Lottoland found the luckiest city in the UK. It turns out that while Bristol is ranked as the luckiest city in the UK and Belfast the unluckiest, our humble city of Plymouth sits at the upper end of the spectrum.
Plymouth ranks as the 242nd luckiest city out of a total of 634. This puts us well above the average. However, we're slightly less lucky than London, which came 241st, but slightly luckier than Newcastle, which came in at 249th.

In what may come as bad news to those who have a grudge against our regional rivals. Nearby Exeter and Torquay both came out as luckier cities than ours, coming in at 215th and 102nd respectively. It seems that Plymouth has some catching up to do.

But what is it about Plymouth that makes its residents feel luckier than the global average? Is it the year-round (mostly) good weather? Perhaps it's the fact that our job market and local economy are among the strongest in the whole of the UK? Maybe it's something to do with Plymouth residents enjoying a significantly higher quality of life than most of our peers across the country.

If one thing is certain, it's that living in Plymouth awards one with opportunities and chances to live the good life that don't exist elsewhere. Maybe the city is truly blessed by the magical hand of fate, or maybe Plymouth just has so much going for it that residents can only conclude that they are the recipients of good fortune. Either way, we can clearly see why Plymouth feels so lucky.
