Bring Home the Cheddar!
Following their sell-out run at the Theatre Royal Plymouth in 2017, Devon based theatre company The Narwhal Ensemble are bringing their hit cheese-rolling comedy Whey Down South back to the Theatre Royal Plymouth between Tuesday 10 - Saturday 14 April 2018.
With music played live on stage, the cast tell the story of Little Curdlington, a cheese-rolling community on the brink of losing their arena, aka the hill, to a housing development company. Although light-hearted in nature, the piece cleverly explores modern life in a rural community through music, storytelling and puppetry - all accompanied by cheese-puns-a-plenty!
The development of the piece began in 2017, when the 9 member ensemble formed on the Theatre Royal Plymouth’s emerging artist training programme, The Lab Company. After months of preparation, Whey Down South premiered in July 2017 to huge success. Now, as part of a south west tour the company are bringing the piece back to the city, with support from Arts Council England and the Theatre Royal Plymouth.
Talking about the show, Co-Director Emma Latham said: “We're really excited to be sharing Whey Down South with an even larger South West audience - the show's now been matured to perfection and is ready to roll! We've been working hard on the characters in our cheese rolling community and can't wait for you to meet them."
Plymouth audiences are invited to roll on down to the Theatre Royal between Tuesday 10 - Saturday 14 April 2018 at 8pm. Tickets are £8 and available from www.theatreroyal.com / 01752 267222.
