Plymouth housebuilder David Wilson Homes has appointed Gary Sheriff as site manager for its Canes Meadow development in Brixton.

Hailing from just down the road in Plympton, Gary will oversee construction at the exclusive site, working closely with all those involved in the process – including subcontractors and suppliers. He has played a key role within the industry for close to 40 years and says that looking after customers is one of his favourite parts of his job.

“People often think that site managers just deal with the grubby, construction side of things but actually you get to work with customers a lot and I enjoy that,” Gary says. “It’s nice to see how excited they are moving into their new homes, having seen the properties take shape from the ground up.”

Gary’s job also involves mentoring David Wilson Homes’ apprentices. Canes Meadow currently has four apprentices, undertaking everything from bricklaying to carpentry. “It’s rewarding to see them develop in their careers,” Gary says. “Everyone on site makes sure they pay special attention to the apprentices and teach them what they can about the industry, from their own experience.”

He adds that progress at Canes Meadow is coming along well, with roofs on many of the homes and tradespeople working on the insides of some already.

David Wilson Homes’ sales director Sara Parker said: “We think very carefully when appointing site managers for our new developments because they are crucial to the success of these important new communities.

“Gary has the skills and experience to deliver homes of the quality our buyers have come to expect from us. I look forward to watching this impressive new development take shape over the coming months.”

Once complete, Canes Meadow will feature an exclusive collection of 17 three, four and five bedroom homes in the picturesque village of Brixton. The development benefits from the best of both worlds, being within easy reach of Dartmoor National Park yet just five miles away from Plymouth city centre.
