Visitors to the hugely popular Good Food Market at Royal William Yard on Sunday 1st of October - 11:00-15:00 - will have an opportunity to hop on board a real life RNLI lifeboat and get a taste of what it’s like to save lives at sea.

At the free event members of the public will get the chance to board the all-weather lifeboat in the marina, and meet the crew to find out more about the RNLI’s vital work.

The Lifeboat open day will be accompanied by the monthly market, which hosts over 60 regular stallholders and is now the biggest food market in the area. The Good Food Market, a regular destination for South West ‘foodies’, offers a host of local food and drink suppliers and producers.

Voluntary secretary of Plymouth RNLI fundraising branch Amanda Brown says: ‘The crew always enjoy meeting our supporters at Lifeboat Day and answering their questions about what they do. We are the busiest lifeboat station in the south west of England, but the work our RNLI volunteers do is only possible thanks to the publics generosity.’

“We are delighted to host the RNLI at the Good Food market this Sunday,” said Emily Handslip, Director, Commercial Lettings, Urban Splash. “The market at The Yard is a great day out for families. The RNLI lifeboat visit is an opportunity for the community to enjoy some of the benefits of having a working harbour at The Yard and the chance to support a good cause.”

The team at Plymouth Lifeboat Station will be on the lookout for more volunteers to support the station in all aspects from fundraising and emptying collection boxes to helping in the RNLI shop. Anyone who would like to find out more should contact chair Dave Lister on 07553080231 or email Plymouth@rnli.org.uk.
