Independent Members needed for the Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Panel

If you want to make a real difference in your community and influence local policing and community safety issues, you could be the right person to serve as an independent member of the Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Panel.

The Panel is part of the accountability arrangements for policing in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The panel maintains a 'check and balance' on the performance of the directly elected Police and Crime Commissioner.

The Panel is looking for a person who lives in Devon to contribute as independent member.

The role will require attendance at least four meetings a year and commitment is expected to average around one day a month. Meetings are normally held during the day in Plymouth but could be held at different locations across Devon and Cornwall. The role is unpaid but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. The Panel is run and co-ordinated by Plymouth City Council on behalf of local authorities in Devon and Cornwall.

Ross Jago Lead Officer for the Panel said: “This is an important and challenging role which offers people the chance to provide independent and constructive challenge to support the Police and Crime Commissioner.”

Applicants would be particularly welcome from the business, voluntary and community sector, organisations supporting black and minority ethnic groups or victims of crime as well as representatives of the community safety or the criminal justice system.
