Free seminars to help business owners navigate what has been described by experts as “the biggest change to the taxation system in a generation” take place across Devon this month.

Next year HMRC will start the implementation of a controversial new taxation regime, called Making Tax Digital, compelling businesses to keep digital accounting records and complete quarterly tax returns online.

In particular, the new system will affect self-employed businesses, partnerships, landlords with rental income, limited companies and individual tax payers.

To help businesses understand how Making Tax Digital will affect their operations, and what they need to do to mitigate any negative impacts, experts from Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants will be on hand to offer insight and advice at the April seminars.

Dale Simpson, partner and tax expert at Thomas Westcott, said: “HMRC’s plans for Making Tax Digital are undoubtedly the biggest change to the taxation system in a generation, and an issue all businesses must address.”

Dale Simpson, who also chairs the South West region of the Chartered Institute of Taxation added: “We understand the changes to digital record keeping are a big challenge for many tax payers which is why we have ensured there are fully trained experts on hand to help clients choose, implement and then use the most suitable software packages.”
