Tea dances, African drumming, and a music and storytelling festival are among the events that have taken place as organisations in Plymouth have been awarded small grants to promote inclusion and diversity in the city.

Plymouth City Council has been working with Plymouth Drake Foundation to provide small grants of up to £2,000 to organisations in the city who promote inclusion and integration across any of the following protected characteristics:

Age
Disability
Faith, belief and religion
Gender
Gender reassignment
Marriage and civil partnership
Pregnancy and maternity
Race
Sexual orientation

Councillor Dave Downie, Cabinet Member for Safer and Stronger Communities for Plymouth City Council said: “We are very pleased to be able to award these grants to local groups. Plymouth is a diverse and welcoming city and it is more important than ever now that we do all that we can to make everyone feel welcome and a part of the city.

“These small grants give local minority groups the opportunity to celebrate and for different members of the community to come together in Plymouth. We want to promote better cohesion amongst all of Plymouth’s diverse communities.”

Arthur Ainslie, Chairman of Plymouth Drake Foundation, said: “We are proud to be working with Plymouth City Council to support local groups and events that celebrate the diversity that exists within our city.”
