Plymouth City Council is seeking proposals from potential partners interested in improving the city’s air quality and people’s health as part of the Department for Transport’s Clean Vehicle Technology Fund.

Up to £500,000 is available to local authorities and Plymouth City Council has recently submitted a bid to the fund for £484,921 in order to improve air quality in the city, particularly along Royal Parade and Exeter Street.

This is to be achieved through the reduction of roadside levels of nitrogen dioxide and other pollutants by modifying or upgrading commercial diesel vehicles with suitable abatement technology.

The Council is seeking proposals from potential partners who wish to bring forward proposals outlining how they would use a share of this funding, if successful, to modify their vehicles to reduce emissions in line with the fund’s guidance.

Proposals should include a brief outline of the abatement technology, environmental impacts, number and type of vehicles that would be modified, cost of the proposal, plans for future use of the vehicles and the geographical area in which they would operate and how the modification project would be managed. Partners should also stipulate any match funding they can contribute.

Plymouth City Council is not bound to accept any application for funding nor should any information in this notice be regarded as a commitment or representation on the part of the Council to enter into a contractual arrangement.

Proposals must be submitted to pubtrans@plymouth.gov.uk by 5pm on Friday 29 August. For further information contact the Council’s Public Transport Team on 307790.
