Smell the most delicious aromas in Plymouth City Centre as Flavour Fest, the South West’s largest free food and drink festival sponsored by Boringdon Hall Hotel, opens on Friday 15 August.

From 9.30am visitors can roam the stands of approximately 120 regional food producers which will stretch through the heart of Plymouth’s city centre from the Kitchen Theatre on the Piazza, to Place de Brest and choose from a wide range of nibbles, drinks or meals.

From African Caribbean to Thai, from noodles to Cornish curry’s, from lemonade to liqueurs there will be something for everyone.

Deputy Leader of the Council, Pete Smith, said: “Flavour Fest has continually grown in popularity with footfall figures regularly exceeding 150,000 for the three-day event, offering visitors a lively and exciting way to experience the true taste of the South West region.”

Cookery demonstrations will be held by local and celebrity chefs including Chris and James Tanner from Tanners and Barbican Kitchen, Mitch Tonks from Rockfish Seafood, Ben Squire from the Boathouse Café and Joe Draper and Andy Richardson from the River Cottage Canteen and Deli.

The Tanner brothers will open the kitchen theatre under the big screen on the Piazza at 10am and several shows will take place up until 5pm.  The kitchen theatre will run from 9.30am to 5pm on Saturday 16 and 10am to 4pm on Sunday 17 August.

Dez Turland from Brend Hotels and Richard Hunt from the Devon Scone Company will be joined by a surprise guest at 12.15pm on Friday for the annual Ready, Steady, Cook showdown with BBC Radio Devon and presented by BBC presenter Natalie Cornah.

Located in the centre of the event site, the ‘Food is Fun’ marquee, awarded the Children’s University Certification, educates and engages the younger audience offering plenty to keep the whole family busy. Equipped with a mini cookery theatre, the marquee hosts cookery demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and healthy educational stalls for children as well as face painting and other fun activities.

Exeter Brewery will set up their real ale and wine marquee at the far end of the Armada Gardens where people can sample some of their award winning Westcountry products. They have won many awards including Taste of the West and Camra.
