One of Plymouth’s top tourist attractions is extending its opening hours.

Smeaton’s Tower which currently opens daily from 10am to 4.30pm, will open for an extra two and a half hours a day.

From Monday 28 July the centrepiece of Plymouth Hoe, will open from 9am to 5.30pm.

Originally built on the Eddystone reef in 1759, it was taken down in the early 1880s. The 72 foot tower offers fantastic views of Plymouth Sound and beyond from its lantern room at the top of the 93 steps.

Councillor Peter Smith, Deputy Leader of Plymouth City Council said: “The Hoe is one of Plymouth’s greatest assets and Smeaton’s Tower is an iconic landmark offers fantastic views, so it is great news for local tourism that opening hours are being extended.”

Prices are £2.60 for adults, £1.30 for children (under threes go free), £1.60 for students and senior citizens, and £7.50 for a family ticket. Group concessions are also available.
