Plymouth Devils tame the Bears
Plymouth gained their first Premier League win for a month when they took all three match points with a 50-41 victory over Redcar at the St Boniface Arena on Friday evening, write Graham Hambly.
Despite using the rider replacement facility for injured Adam Roynon and calling up Rye House rider Steve Boxall as a guest for the unwell Rasmus Jensen, the Skills Group Devils were always in control after racing into an eight-point lead during the first three heats.
Particularly impressive for Plymouth were reserves Roland Benko and Sam Simota, who scored 20 points between them.
Plymouth co-promoter David Short said: "It was a very pleasing meeting for us. The form of the two reserves was most encouraging and augurs well for the future.
"Credit is also due to Redcar for their efforts, which contributed towards some good entertainment for the Plymouth public. "We now need to continue that form on our travels and get some results away from home."
Plymouth travel to Workington on Saturday evening (7pm) and visit Glasgow on Sunday afternoon (3pm). They will have Edinburgh’s Max Fricke guesting for Jensen in both meetings.
Plymouth: Ben Barker 9+1 (5 rides), rider replacement for Adam Roynon, Kalle Katajisto 10+2 (5), Kyle Newman 7 (5), Steve Boxall 4+2 (5). Reserves: Roland Benko 11+1 (5), Sam Simota 9+2 (5).
