Man injured following mystery incident

Police in Plymouth are appealing for the public’s help in discovering what may have happened to a city man who received serious head injuries after a mystery incident.

He was found with horrific injuries and wearing a shirt which was covered in blood outside the New York Express Takeaway in Notte Street by passers-by at around 1.30am.

The 47-year-old had been out in the Barbican area of the city late Saturday night and early Sunday (27th April).

An ambulance was called and he was taken to Derriford Hospital for treatment, where he remains.

He has had to have 60 stitches to his head, as well as treatment for two fractured eye sockets, a fractured nose, a fractured skull and a bleed to the brain following the incident.

The victim has little or no recollection of what took place but had been out drinking.

Officers have carried out local enquiries but still do not know what happened to him on the night.

DC Tona Pooley said: “It is a mystery to the victim and to us at this point as to exactly what took place.

“We do know that nothing was taken from him as he still had his wallet and nothing else appeared to have been stolen from him.

“We believe that the last pub he visited may have been the Three Crowns, which is near to where he was found.”
