The Book Thief (12A)
Based on the beloved bestselling book, this touching and haunting drama gives a unique presentation of life under Nazism, as seen from the unusual perspective of the Grim Reaper. The spectral storyteller narrates the tale of Liesel, (played by relative newcomer Sophie Nélisse), an extraordinary, spirited young girl sent to live with a foster family in WWII Germany after her mother is taken away. Unable to read but intrigued by the only book she brought with her, she becomes fascinated with collecting books as she finds them. With the help of her new parents (Rush and Watson) and a secret guest under the stairs, she learns to read and creates a magical world that helps to transform the lives of everyone around her.
