With the pandemic receding and the future looking sunnier, many of us are taking the leap and deciding to fulfil our dreams by going travelling. But while plenty of us have savings stocked up from the dismal 2020/21 period, it’s always a good idea to have a backup way of earning money if your funds are depleted while you’re out seeing the world.

To help you find a hustle that will earn you a good amount of money while you’re away, read on to learn about some of the most popular ways to make money while travelling.

Teach English

Even if you weren’t top of the class while learning Shakespeare, your innate English skills are definitely in demand abroad. In practically every country there are people who want to learn the language of business – English – and as a result, your skills and knowledge as a native speaker can earn you a pretty penny.

There are lots of ways you can use to market your skills as an English teacher abroad, including Upwork, TEFL, and country-specific job sites.

Freelance remotely

If you have a business-focused skill, or any skill you can do remotely from a computer, for that matter, then freelancing might be for you. By getting clients on your payroll before you head away, you can have secure earnings while you’re abroad – working a few hours or days a week, and being paid in your local currency, which may buy you more in the countries you’re travelling to.

Consider forex

If you have some money to spare and know a thing or two about how the economy and business world works, consider forex trading as a means of earning extra money. Here, you buy currencies and sell them when their value increases, netting the profit, or engage in spread betting where you bet on whether a currency will go up or down in value. Of course, you can lose money forex trading, so be careful and only use money you don’t mind losing.

Work in hospitality

Whether its back at the hostel or in a swanky club, there’s always hospitality work going abroad, particularly in cities. This one works best if you’re planning on staying in a location for a while, and while it might not pay as much as similar work back home, it’ll provide you with a steady income and a great means to learn the local lingo.

With the ideas above, you should have some ideas on how to earn money while abroad. Just think of your skills, market them right, and you’ll be set to explore!
