Speedway: Plymouth Devils 43 Berwick Bandits 52
Plymouth suffered a disappointing 52-43 home defeat in their Premier League match against Berwick at the St Boniface Arena on Friday evening.
The Skills Group Devils relied heavily on skipper Ben Barker and Danish youngster Rasmus Jensen, who collected seven race wins between them. But the top two lacked support.
Co-promoter Ashley Taylor said: "We had too many non-scoring rides for a home team with last place in 12 of the 15 heats. We struggled to get out of the gate and were beaten by a Berwick side, who performed well as a team."
Plymouth were without Adam Roynon, who was suffering from a back injury, but took eight points from his replacement rides.
The normally reliable Kalle Katajisto struggled with mechanical problems in his first three races while Sam Simota was feeling unwell and failed to score from his three outings.
Leading the way for Berwick was reserve Steen Jensen, who won his first four races on his way to an impressive return of 13 (paid 14) points from six rides.
Plymouth: Ben Barker 18 (6 rides), Sam Simota 0 (3), Kalle Katajisto 5 (5), rider replacement for Adam Roynon, Rasmus Jensen 13 (6). Reserves: Kyle Newman 7+2 (7), Tim Webster 0 (3).
Berwick: Kevin Doolan 8+1 (4), David Bellego 4+2 (4), Matej Kus 5+1 (4), Matthew Wethers 9+1 (4), Claus Vissing 10+2 (5). Reserves: Liam Carr 3 (3), Steen Jensen 13+1 (6).
