Plymouth's Ruta Meilutyte breaks world record on her way to swimming final

Plymouth College student Ruta Meilutyte has set a new world record for the 100m breaststroke in the World Aquatic Championships semi-final in Barcelona.

The 16-year-old Lithuanian set a new world best time of 1:04.35 on Monday 29 July to qualify for the final.

The Olympic Champion who is coached by Jon Rudd, swims for Plymouth Leander, after moving to Plymouth from Lithuania three years ago.

She will be the hot favourite for Tuesday's final.
