Plymouth Harriers were this week awarded Plymouth’s Half Marathon prestigious Running Club Award, for the second year in a row, after a fantastic performance by 35 of its club runners on the day.

As well as the accolade of receiving the Running Club Award, Plymouth Harriers were also awarded £250, which they have kindly chosen to donate to The Archie Lincoln Trust.

Jamie Warren, Marketing Manager at GO2, race organisers said: “Congratulations to all the Plymouth Harriers runners that took part in the event! We recognise the importance of running clubs across all of our races, not only to help develop the events with our Club of the Year programme, but also to ensure we have a good calibre of professional and club athletes running on the day. Plymouth Harriers have set a great example of both team spirit, and competitive determination. We hope to see even more of them back again next year!”

Penny Hadfield-Bennett, Chair Lady for Plymouth Harriers, said: “This will be the second year that Plymouth Harriers have won the running club award for Plymouth’s Half Marathon, and we are absolutely thrilled! We had over 35 members running Plymouth’s Half Marathon this year, ranging from our top runners, right through to our regular members who never give in no matter what challenges are placed upon them, and finally our amazing charity runners. Every year we have members who run dress up as bananas for local charity and this year they successfully raise funds for Derriford Intensive Care Unit.

“As Chair Lady, I am extremely proud to be part of such a successful, energetic club that prides itself on club support, encouragement, determination, humour and stubbornness to achieve the results members want. We meet regularly during the week for club runs which caters for all abilities, from beginners right through to fast runners, covering interval and speed training, cross country and road running. When all the hard from everyone work comes together on race day, it really is a team achievement, and we are so pleased that the club's efforts have been recognised.”

4,283 runners took to the start line of the 13.1 mile race, cheered on by thousands of locals who lined the streets to show their support. If you feel inspired by this year’s race, pre-registration is now open for the 2015 race at www.plymouthhalfmarathon.com.
